Clinical Director | Anatomical Pathology

0.2 FTE | 3-year fixed term | Christchurch Hospital

We are pleased to invite Expressions of Interest from our Anatomical Pathology SMOs for the opportunity to take on the role of Clinical Director – Anatomical Pathology for a three-year fixed term.

This is an opportunity to play a key role in the clinical leadership and future direction of the Anatomical Pathology service, working closely with the Chief of Pathology, Chief Medical Officer and Service Manager to support a high-quality, collaborative and sustainable service.

About the opportunity

The Clinical Director will provide clinical leadership across the department, working alongside colleagues to support the delivery and ongoing development of the service.

Key areas of focus will include:

• Providing oversight of clinical output and ensuring work is appropriately and equitably distributed across the service.
• Supporting clinical staffing, rostering, leave planning and workforce requirements.
• Promoting high standards of clinical quality, productivity and patient-centred care.
• Supporting the professional development, wellbeing and engagement of colleagues.
• Identifying opportunities to improve systems, standardise practice and reduce variation and waste.
• Contributing to service planning and shaping the future direction of Anatomical Pathology.
• Working collaboratively with the Chief of Pathology, Service Manager, Section Heads and wider laboratory team.
• Representing Anatomical Pathology in relevant national pathology forums and initiatives.

About you

We are looking for a clinician who is:

• A Fellow of the RCPA in Anatomical Pathology or holds an equivalent qualification.
• A respected clinician currently working within the service who is committed to supporting colleagues and contributing to the wider service.
• Able to provide effective, collaborative and visible clinical leadership.
• A strong communicator who can build trusted relationships and work effectively across clinical and operational teams.
• Committed to quality improvement, innovation and developing a positive team culture.
• Interested in contributing to the continued development and future direction of Anatomical Pathology.
