Clinical Team Leader - Community Dental Service

About the Role
Our Community Dental Service provides dental services to over 90,000 children aged 0-13 in Canterbury and South Canterbury and supports our colleagues on the West Coast. There are 90 front-line clinical staff who work with modern equipment in 22 mobile dental units and 13 dental clinics.

We are seeking a confident, experienced therapist with proven leadership experience who is ready to take the next step in their leadership journey. This is a first‑line leadership role suited to someone who enjoys guiding others, building strong teams, and balancing clinical practice with day‑to‑day team leadership.
Based in Timaru, as Clinical Team Leader you will play a key role in coordinating and supporting a cluster team delivering oral health services across community and school settings. You’ll work closely with children and their families/whānau, supporting diverse populations while managing a wide range of oral health needs.
In this role your time is split, combining hands‑on clinical work with leadership responsibilities. You’ll lead by example, support service delivery, and contribute to a positive, high‑performing team culture. You will be well supported as you continue to grow your leadership and management capability as part of a defined career pathway.
In this role, you will be responsible for:
- Providing high quality oral health care appropriate to the physical, social and cultural needs of pre-school and school age clients
- Providing clinical support, mentoring and advice to staff in your cluster, supporting their personal growth and development
- Co-ordinating, leading and supporting staff to ensure service targets and priorities are met
- Participating in team meetings and the service quality improvement process
- Support the day to day running of Clinical teams
- Developing and nurturing key stakeholder relationships in South Canterbury and Mid Canterbury
About You
To be successful in this role, you will be an experienced oral health practitioner with a minimum of three years’ clinical experience and demonstrated leadership capability.
You will also bring:
- A people person who listens well and communicates effectively
- Excellent time management, prioritisation and decision-making skills
- Works well in a team and on their own, is self-motivated
- Has intermediate level skills in titanium software and the Microsoft suite of programmes
- Must be registered or eligible for registration with NZ Dental Council
