Medical Laboratory Scientist – Immunology
Are you a Medical Laboratory Scientist looking to develop your career within a specialised diagnostic Immunology service?
Christchurch Health Laboratories (CHL) is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our Immunology team. Our diagnostic Immunology section supports clinicians in the diagnosis and management of patients with conditions resulting from disorders of the immune system, including autoimmunity, autoinflammation, allergy, and primary and secondary immunodeficiency.
About the role
As a Medical Laboratory Scientist, you will provide a high-quality laboratory science service through the collection, receipt, preparation, investigation and analysis of human biological samples, supporting patient diagnosis, management and treatment.
You will perform a range of immunological testing and analysis, including:
- ELISA and CLIA
- Indirect immunofluorescence
- Fluorescence immunoassay (ImmunoCAP)
- Line immunoassay
- Radioimmunoassay
- Flow cytometry
- Manual and automated laboratory assays
You will also contribute to quality processes and regulatory requirements, including maintaining laboratory accreditation to ISO 15189. You may also have opportunities to support method changes, verification and other continuous improvement initiatives.

About you
You will be a motivated and detail-focused Medical Laboratory Scientist who takes pride in delivering accurate, high-quality results and enjoys working in a specialised laboratory environment.
You will have:
- Registration as a Medical Laboratory Scientist with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand and a current Annual Practising Certificate (APC)
- The ability to maintain a high professional standard in line with the competence standards for Medical Laboratory Scientists
- Laboratory experience in Immunology testing and techniques
- Strong analytical skills and excellent attention to detail
- The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Experience working within an IANZ-accredited laboratory is desirable
- Experience with indirect immunofluorescence reading and flow cytometry would be an advantage
