Psychiatrists - Christchurch, New Zealand

New Zealand will take care of your well-being, while you take care of ours.

Work – life balance is something we often recommend to our patients, how often do we get the balance right ourselves?

We think that Christchurch is one place where you can strike that balance with a fulfilling and challenging career in specialist mental health care in a vibrant city with a full range of amenities yet close to nature; with harbours, hills and mountains at your doorstep.

Canterbury DHB prides itself on a progressive high quality specialist mental health service in which specialist Psychiatrists play a key role.

· We have a close relationship with the University of Otago, Christchurch Medical School with a number of shared appointments

· We have an even closer relationship with the Christchurch Registrar Training Programme with specialist involvement in teaching and supervision

· We have undertaken major service developments across a range of specialties and continue to actively develop our services

· Specialist Mental Health Services won 5 Quality awards in the 2015 CDHB Health Quality and Safety competition

· We work in concert with our Psychiatrists on all issues of service development, workloads and work practices

Outside of work you will find that Christchurch is the right place to be, starting with our daily newspaper over some of the best coffee in the world in one of the many cafes, through to arts, theatre, museums and festivals of busking, flowers, gardening, beer and wine. With international sports venues in the city all a walk away. Canterbury is proud to have a world beating rugby team - the Crusaders.

Adjacent to the city lie two harbours and a shallow water estuary with wide ranging water sports and the picturesque French town of Akaroa. Ski fields lie within an hour and half of the city as does Hanmer the local hot springs and water park. Dense bush and challenging mountains with spectacular waterfalls are a two hour drive from the city and the whole South Island can be reached within a day’s drive.

The city has excellent educational facilities with high achieving public and private schools with choices of co-ed and single sex high schools. There are two University campuses and a wide variety of other trade and tertiary educational opportunities covering the full range of courses and qualifications.
