Radiation Oncologist

Our Purpose: What We’re Here For

When you work with the Canterbury District Health Board, you’re part of something very special. We’re world leaders in the delivery of integrated health care, and we’re always striving to Make It Better. From the carers on the front line working directly with patients and communities, to our talented support teams who enable that care, we plan, fund and deliver health services to the almost 600,000 New Zealanders that live in the Canterbury region. And we’re all about putting people at the heart of everything we do.

Our Culture: What Matters To Us

Ko Te Whatu Manawa Tangata

Putting people at the heart of all we do

For us to continue putting our communities at the centre of our health system, we’re putting our own people at the centre of everything we do. Because health is ultimately all about people. What’s important around here is the way we care for and respect others, the responsibility that all our people take for delivering outcomes, and that we go about our work with integrity in all we do.

The Role: What This Opportunity’s All About

We are looking for a Radiation Oncologist to join our team in providing specialist tertiary care

Our Canterbury Regional Cancer and Blood Service (CRCBS) provides a regional tertiary service to a population of approximately 700,000.  The CRCBS maintains close links with the University of Otago’s Christchurch School of Medicine and Health Sciences and is actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.

Our unit has a busy oncology outpatient radiation treatment and chemotherapy day ward service. The department has four linear accelerators, a wide-bore CT-simulator, Monaco treatment planning systems and Varian HDR Brachytherapy. We have On-Board Imaging, cone-beam CT, gating capability as well as DIBH facility.

We introduced IMRT in early 2012 for Head & Neck cancers initially and have since expanded this technique to many other sites. We have been doing Stereotactic Radiotherapy treatments for Lung cancers for last few years and have recently introduced this to include CNS and aim to expand this to include the Spine. We have also started HDR-Brachytherapy (as boost) for Prostate cancers since last 18 months & this service is growing quite rapidly.

To be considered for this position you will need to hold the FRANZCR or an equivalent qualification that would enable registration as a specialist radiation oncologist by the Medical Council of New Zealand.

In addition to your clinical, academic and admin duties, you would also be participating in the after-hours on-call roster as well as covering clinical services in Out-reach clinics (West coast /Nelson/Blenheim).
