The Team: What we do

The Rural Adult Community Mental Health in the Specialty Mental Health Service of the Canterbury District Health Board, provides specialist assessment and treatment to people (aged 18-65) whose everyday life is significantly affected by mental disorder.  We are currently recruiting a Social Worker to join our team of dedicated health professionals striving to provide the best quality care to consumers and their families/whanau. This is a full time permanent position.

The Rural Team is a multi-disciplinary mental health team comprised of Psychiatric Nurses, Consultant Psychiatrist, Occupational Therapist, Social Worker, Registrar, and administration staff. The team is based at Hillmorton hospital but makes home visits to consumer and their families

The Role: Where you fit in

You will have experience working with adults who have a range of mental health issues with the aim of decreasing the impact on consumers, their families, caregivers, significant others and the community.  Central to your success and enjoyment in this role will be your excellent communication and team work skills, an ability to build rapport with consumers, families and health providers and your interest in developing rural mental health work practice

This would be an ideal opportunity for a Social Worker who is has an in-depth knowledge of mental disorders in particular, you would contribute your significant social work knowledge to the service’s strong focus on family/whanau and cultural inclusive practice in a rural setting

Supervision and support will be provided by the Social Workers in the Specialist Mental Health Service. The successful applicant will be supported to attend appropriate training courses relevant to the treatment of mental disorders and the rural social work role.
