Allied Health Assistant / Kaiāwhina
- Hours – 1.0FTE, 40 hours per week
- Shifts – Monday to Friday 8am – 4.30pm but some weekend work may be required
- Status – Permanent

- Salary – Starting from $72,074 to $86,719. Based on the PSA Allied, Public Health and Technical collective agreement

About the Role
Allied Health are a diverse group of clinicians who provide a wide range of preventative, diagnostic and therapeutic treatments as well as rehabilitation and enablement care across a patient’s whole life course. Some of the teams in this group are dietitians, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, speech language therapists, and social workers.
Allied Health are working on ways to enhance tangata whaiora and whānau (person and family care) service delivery to help with the journey through our health system and are looking at growing their assistant/Kaiāwhina team working with them in their team.
We’re looking for an energetic and enthusiastic Allied Health Assistant with a ‘can-do’ attitude to join our multi disciplinary team, working across the acute Christchurch Hospital site.
You will bring a strong desire to be part of a team and be dedicated to continued learning and striving for the best patient outcomes.
The role is to provide patient support on specific wards/ areas at Christchurch Hospital working alongside a variety of different Allied Health professionals.
The
successful candidate will start working alongside the Physiotherapists
providing service to the General Medicine Speciality at Christchurch Hospital
for 3-6 months, then will be trained to also support the wider Allied health
service delivery on the same wards.
Tasks include:
- Carrying out treatment plans as delegated
- Cleaning/maintaining equipment and clinical spaces
- Checking and maintaining consumables and stock
- Delivering and set up of equipment
As working to achieve equity in healthcare is important for how we deliver our Allied Health services, you will be required to incorporate manaakitanga into your practice and use kaupapa Māori concepts when working with patients. We will also provide further training and support around this for successful candidates.
About You
No graduate qualifications are required. On the job training will be provided, however previous experience as an Allied Health Assistant is desirable. A good level of literacy and comprehension and confidence using digital devices is essential. A NZQA Level 3 certificate in health is desirable, however if you have not achieved this you will be supported to work towards this qualification once you are settled into our team.
- Strong inter-personal skills and a sound communicator
- The ability to follow direction to assist in the delivery of treatment and rehabilitation plans
- Basic computer skills essential
- Knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its relevance to health
- Previous experience in a similar role with a good understanding of health is essential
- A NZQA Level 3 Certificate in Health and Wellbeing is desirable
