Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is committed to building a health system that serves all New Zealanders

About the Role

Step into a role where your skills keep critical radiology systems running and make a real difference every day. As an Application Specialist – Radiology Systems, you’ll be hands-on supporting, troubleshooting and optimising core clinical applications, (including RIS/PACS). Working closely with service and team leads, clinical stakeholders, digital teams, and vendors, you’ll help ensure our systems are reliable, efficient and continuously improving. From resolving incidents and supporting users through to enhancing performance, and supporting upgrades and change, you will be central to delivering stable, practical solutions that enable safe and effective patient care.

You will bring proven experience supporting radiology or imaging-related clinical applications, along with a customer-focused approach and the ability to work confidently with clinicians and technical stakeholders. Experience with radiology systems is highly valued but not essential. Radiographers with strong IT capability and an interest in digital health are encouraged to apply. We welcome applicants who are eager to learn and contribute to safe, efficient digital workflows across radiology services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert application support, configuration assistance, and administrative oversight across radiology IT systems.
  • Triage, investigate and resolve incidents and service requests, communicating clearly with users and stakeholders via phone and ticketing systems.
  • Partner with internal technical teams and vendors on upgrades, rollouts, defect resolution and optimisation activities.
  • Plan and deliver structured training and user enablement for systems and workflows (remote and in-person), including supporting materials where required.
  • Contribute to projects and continuous improvement workstreams to enhance system performance, data quality and user experience.
  • Participate in a shared 24/7 on-call roster for after-hours support following training and readiness confirmation.

About the Team

You’ll join a close-knit team within Radiology at Christchurch Hospital, supporting radiology applications across linked hospital services in the South Island. Working alongside clinical teams, digital services and vendors, we focus on system reliability, patient safety and optimising the tools that support diagnostic services and patient care.

About You

You’re someone who enjoys solving problems, improving processes and supporting others. You bring a user-focused mindset and can communicate effectively with both clinical and technical teams. You can translate user needs into practical actions, and you follow through with clear communication and strong documentation. You’re confident triaging and prioritising work in a ticketing environment, and you enjoy enabling others through clear guidance and training. You are calm under pressure, organised in your approach, and committed to delivering reliable service outcomes.

To thrive in this role, you will have:

  • 2+ years’ experience supporting clinical applications or working in healthcare IT (or comparable complex application environments)
  • Experience in application support, training, implementation and/or optimisation
  • Exposure to project coordination and change management activities
  • Familiarity with radiology systems or workflows (advantageous, but not required)
  • Experience working in large, complex organisations or fast-paced operational settings.

What We Offer

  • A friendly, collaborative workplace culture.
  • A meaningful role that blends application administration, customer service and IT within a healthcare setting.
  • The opportunity to make a real impact on patient care and staff experience through reliable digital services.
  • Ongoing development and learning opportunities, including access to training and support.
  • Comprehensive onboarding and training on the systems and software required to succeed in the role.
  • A varied workload -no two days are the same.
