About the role

As a member of the Te Whatu Ora Health NZ Waitaha Canterbury Bioengineering Group, your role is to assist in the design, development, construction and maintenance of special medical and scientific instruments and devices for clinical departments within Canterbury health system. We bring our skills in mechanical, software and electronic engineering to the clinical setting.

We’re looking for a Biomedical Engineer with a mechanical or mechatronics engineering background to join our team on a permanent full time (40hr per week) basis. The days and hours associated with this position are Monday – Friday, ideally 8am – 4.30pm but start and end times are flexible. This is an exciting position offering significant variety and the opportunity to apply your skills to contribute to provision of quality healthcare within Canterbury. We value the ability to apply engineering knowledge in unconventional ways – from creating a 3D printed model, to assisting a surgeon or helping an injured patient or clinician find a new way of working. In this role you may be required to travel to our other Waitaha Canterbury campuses or carry out home visits.

You will be responsible for:

  • Meeting with customers, interpreting and documenting their requirements and bringing engineering analysis to the table.
  • Working collaboratively in a team to convert clinical problems into physical solution.
  • Using engineering and mathematical analysis to support clinical research.
  • Contributing to the 3D printing of surgical bio-models (training will be provided). 

About your skills and experience

This role requires the following:

Essential

  • Have a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering

Desirable

  • Have a master’s degree or PhD
  • Proficiency with Autodesk Inventor
  • Have experience working within ISO 13485 quality management systems
  • Have experience conducting risk assessments for medical devices
