About the Role

As a Brachytherapy Fellow, you will join a high-performing Radiation Oncology department delivering care to patients across the South Island.

This is a practical, skills-focused fellowship where you will:

  • Gain hands-on procedural experience in both prostate and gynaecological brachytherapy
  • Train in low dose rate (LDR) seed brachytherapy within New Zealand’s busiest programme
  • Work across both public and private settings, broadening your exposure
  • Participate in clinical research, service development, and quality improvement initiatives
  • Contribute to registrar teaching and education, supported by an experienced and collaborative team

You will be mentored by nationally and internationally recognised clinicians, with opportunities to contribute to research and present at conferences.

About the Team / Service / Location

The Canterbury Regional Cancer and Haematology Service (CRCHS) provides comprehensive cancer care to a population of approximately 700,000 across the South Island.

Our Radiation Oncology department includes:

  • 11 Radiation Oncologists
  • 13 Medical Oncologists
  • 6 Haematologists
  • 4 Palliative Care Physicians
  • A highly skilled multidisciplinary team

About You

You will be a motivated and collegial clinician who is ready to deepen your expertise in brachytherapy.

To be successful in this role, you will:

  • Hold FRANZCR (or equivalent), or be close to completion
  • Be eligible for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand
  • Demonstrate strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Have an interest in brachytherapy and procedural oncology
  • Be enthusiastic about teaching, learning, and clinical research
