Health New Zealand is looking for a cook to join our Kaikōura Health Te Hā O Te
Ora kapa (team) to help feed our tūroro (patients) and whānau (family).
Located on the beautiful Kaikoura coast, Kaikōura Health Te Hā O Te Ora offers
a wide variety of services to the local community. Our integrated Family
Health Centre offers a fantastic mix of general practice and rural hospital
medicine with a wide range of services and this role is supporting those
important services.
In this role, you will be responsible for:
- Cooking for rest home residents, acute tūroro (patients) and meals on wheels delivery.
- Keeping work areas, equipment and utensils clean and well maintained
- Receiving, store and rotate kitchen supplies
- Regularly developing and updating industry knowledge
You will be following recipes from a weekly menu and will be supported by the main cook of the day.
This is a casual role with no
guaranteed hours or days. In this role you will be covering sick (oncall) and
annual leave. Shifts are no more than 8 hours. Salary starting from $25.50 per
hour. Based on the E tū Service and Food Workers collective agreement.
Ko wai koe - About You
We are looking for a motivated, reliable and punctual Cook who is able to bring their passion for food to our facility.
You will also be responsible for maintaining and adhering to our Food Control Plan, Health New Zealand code of conduct and Health and Safety procedures.
Full training will be provided to
all new staff joining our team.

- Excellent communication skills
- Passion for cookery and a creative approach, adaptable when required
- The ability to maintain speed without compromising standards, work well under pressure
- Ability to build solid relationships with others
- Proven experience in a similar role preferred but not essential
- NZQA Food Handling Cert Unit 167/ 168 preferred but not essential
- High level of Patient confidentiality
