About the Role

At Chatham Islands we provide health care to the community and the visiting tourists who fly over to indulge in the outdoors, conservation protected areas, new and preserved cultural and heritage landmarks.

A Healthcare Assistant is an integral part of our team and we are looking for a candidate who have excellent communication skills, a positive attitude and the ability to use their initiative. You will enjoy being busy and don't mind that the role can be at times be physically demanding. You will work with a diverse multi-disciplinary team.

The role of a Healthcare Assistant varies from day to day but you will be there to make sure that the centre is running smoothly and to its highest potential. This could mean performing a variety of tasks such as:

  • Supporting people to stay well in their homes, assisting with cleaning and personal cares such as showering,
  • Ensuring that patients at the health centre and in the community have the best experience possible.
  • Maintaining cleanliness and orderliness within the health centre premises; including maintaining the hospital grounds and disposal of rubbish.
  • Assisting in the transportation of patients and staff to and from the airport.
  • Picking up and managing freight as required.
  • Assisting with meal preparation for patients and staff
  • Assisting the nursing team to ensure the smooth running of the health centre.

You must be flexible to work all shifts, including weekends and nights.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills,
  • A high attention to detail and the ability to relate to patients and their families,
  • A good use of initiative and problem-solving skills,
  • Excellent time management skills and a willingness to learn.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities and requirements as needed.
