About the Role

Healthcare Assistants are instrumental in providing care to patients in all clinical areas across Ashburton Hospital. You will work in a variety of wards at Ashburton Hospital, including the Acute Admitting Unit, Ward 1, Ward 2, as well as Tuarangi Home.

Ashburton Hospital provides a range of Inpatient health services; both acute, and assessment treatment and rehabilitation. Tuarangi Home is a Residential Care facility that provides hospital level and dementia care at both rest home and hospital levels.

As a Healthcare Assistant you will assist nursing staff with patient cares which at times can be one on one whilst maintaining a safe and clean work environment. You will enjoy working as part of a multidisciplinary team, have excellent interpersonal and organisational skills, a high level of confidentiality and the ability to work well under pressure.

The role of a healthcare assistant varies from day to day but you will be there to make sure that the ward is running smoothly and to its highest potential. This could mean performing a variety of tasks such as:

  1. Basic patient care, hygiene and personal care
  2. Cleaning and tidying the ward
  3. Assisting the nursing team with a variety of tasks on the ward
  4. Ensuring that patients have the best experience possible

  1. Strong customer service skills
  2. Fantastic organisation skills and the ability to learn quickly 
  3. Great time management skills
  4. Ability to communicate and build relationships with people from all walks of life
  5. You will have a kind and caring nature
  6. A strong work ethic is an integral part of this role
