Casual Registered Midwife

About the Role
We have a wonderful opportunity for a Registered Midwife to join our team alongside core and Lead Maternity Care midwives, committed to facilitating safe birthing in our rural community.
The
role requires you to be available for all shifts on a casual basis, including
short notice sick cover.
Casual midwives can be rostered to cover annual leave and be available for both
short and long notice sick cover. There is a mixture of 12 and 8 hour shifts
and some sole charge shifts.
About the Service
Ashburton Community Birthing Unit is a friendly, bespoke homely birthing unit attached to the Ashburton Rural Hospital campus, located in central Ashburton, Mid Canterbury. It is a well-established 4 bed 2 birthing room unit and is embraced and supported by our local community.
About you
Midwives will be well supported by a committed and
motivated team who promote the midwifery model
of care, supporting and protecting normal childbirth by working with women and
their whānau in the diverse Ashburton community.
- 2 years post-graduation experience
- Able to practise autonomously and comfortably in a rural community setting.
- Have confidence coupled with excellent communication skills to navigate obstetric and neonatal emergencies, and the ability to cannulate. (Support is provided for those working towards gaining confidence.)
- A passion for primary birthing and supporting women to initiate and continue breastfeeding
- A commitment to equity and our responsibilities under Te Tiriti o Waitangi within maternity services
- The ability to be adaptable, flexible, solution focused and part of a small cohesive team
- Registered with the Midwifery Council of New Zealand with a current Annual Practising Certificate (APC)
