About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic nursing leader to join our team in ward CG, Burwood Adult Rehabilitation Unit (BARU) Older Persons Health & Rehabilitation.  We are looking for a senior nurse with strong leadership and interpersonal skills and an ability to work alongside a multidisciplinary team.  Be an innovative thinker and can problem solve and respond in a varied and complex patient environment.

Ward CG at Burwood Hospital is a Neurological Adult Rehabilitation Service with an interdisciplinary team approach working alongside patients who have suffered a neurological event such as stroke or brain aneurysm.  Our patient population age group is primarily between 18 – 65 years.  Based at Burwood Hospital, you will work as part of our Older Person’s Health & Rehabilitation Specialist Service providing vital care and rehabilitation to some of our community’s most vulnerable people.  You will require a strong rehabilitation focus, a desire to learn and an understanding of the social and cultural needs of our patients and their families / whanau.

This is a wonderful opportunity for an experienced Senior Registered Nurse to gain and develop leadership knowledge and experience.  Effective communication and development of a close working relationship with all interdisciplinary team members is the key to success in this role.  With your extensive clinical experience, you will demonstrate the ability to enthusiastically lead a diverse team in a challenging but supportive environment.  Working seamlessly within an interdisciplinary Team including Nurse Managers, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Registered and Enrolled nurse, Hospital Aides and Allied Health Professionals.

About You

  • As a senior nurse you will require recent neurological nursing experience
  • Proven leadership skills supporting daily operational activity and patient flow
  • Expert communication, interpersonal skills and proven ability to engage people at all levels will see you work effectively and efficiently with a diverse group of teams
  • By utilising advanced knowledge and clinical skills in collaboration with nursing and medical staff, the multidisciplinary team and other external agencies you will contribute to the development and maintenance of high quality evidenced based care whilst also contributing to and developing appropriate nursing standards and quality initiatives
  • Sound interpersonal skills and management of complex situations enable you to work alongside a variety of clinicians to ensure care is delivered as required.

Skills and Experience

  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities
  • Experience in relevant management and / or leadership roles with the ability to influence decision making and change
  • Interpersonal skills and building relationships
  • Strategic thinking and promoting interdisciplinary collaboration
  • Familiar with operational and financial management
  • Competent user of Microsoft office suite and other relevant software
  • NZ Registered Nurse with a current Annual Practicing Certificate
  • Hold or be working towards a relevant Post Graduate Certificate
  • Good Knowledge and support for the integration of Te Tiriti o Waitangi within an inpatient setting
