Chemical Pathologist

Is it time for change? How about a leap that sees you experiencing the wonders of the NZ lifestyle, where adventure is always at your doorstep, you’re never far from a picture-perfect view, and the ultimate work-life balance is truly attainable? If you’re a Chemical Pathologist considering a move, this could be your best one yet.

Here’s your chance to join a health system that truly cares. Here in Christchurch, New Zealand, the Canterbury DHB (CANTERBURY DHB) is a world leader in the delivery of integrated healthcare, and right now, we have an opportunity within our Canterbury Health Laboratories (CHL) team. As a highly skilled pathologist, you’ll play a key role in helping to shape the strategic direction of the Biochemistry laboratory service. Interested?

The Team

You’ll join the skilled and supportive team at CHL, our public hospital laboratory that provides services to the network of hospitals within the Canterbury DHB, as well as the wider Canterbury and West Coast Health Systems here in the South Island of New Zealand.

A tertiary level facility, CHL provides laboratory services and an extensive range of specialist testing covering a comprehensive range of disorders; we have particular interests in lipid disorders, porphyrias, trace metals, occupational health monitoring, workplace drug testing and maternal serum screening. We also have extensive links with other laboratories within New Zealand, and the opportunity to collaborate through our range of partnerships across Australasia and globally, being a reference laboratory for many specialist investigations.

The Role

As a key part of our Chemical pathology team, you’ll work closely with our experienced staff to always ensure that patients and referrers are provided with a world leading service.

As well as a remarkable lifestyle change, this is a role that could take you down exciting future pathways. With strong academic links with the University of Otago, you’ll contribute to the undergraduate teaching programme at a world class University, and be ever encouraged to pursue your own specialist research interests there.

You’ll be an excellent communicator who can relate easily and work effectively with any and all people, which will help you to lead the way in continuing our culture of constant improvement. If you’re always looking for ways to make processes more efficient, effective and accurate, you’ll fit right in. You’ll also join a supportive team and participate in an on call roster, so work can be shared.

To apply for this role, you’ll hold a Medical Degree and a post graduate qualification in Chemical Pathology, recognised by the New Zealand Medical Council and the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (RCPA) for vocational registration.
