About the Role

We are seeking an organised, proactive and personable Nephrology Clinical Administrator to join the Nephrology Service at Christchurch Hospital on a permanent, full-time (1.0 FTE) basis.

This is a varied and rewarding role at the heart of the Nephrology service, combining booking administration with medical transcription duties. You will manage outpatient clinic bookings, coordinate referrals through to triage and action, support the smooth running of the Thursday Nephrology clinic and Tuesday Fellow clinic, and manage bookings for the Nephrology Clinic Rooms and Nephrology–Urology Seminar Room. You will also type dictated clinical correspondence from SMOs and Registrars, ensuring letters are turned around accurately and within agreed timeframes.

Working closely with the Administration Team Leader, Service Manager, and Clinical Director/Triaging Clinician, you will be the first point of contact for many patients and staff, and a key link between clinicians, patients, GPs, and other health agencies across the wider Canterbury and West Coast regions.

As part of the Administration and Clerical Pay Equity Claim settlement this role has been mapped to National Band 4/Profile 4 Step 1 to 3 (final placement step is dependent on skills, knowledge and experience)

The Nephrology Service at Christchurch Hospital provides comprehensive tertiary renal services to the wider Canterbury and West Coast regions, including inpatient nephrology, haemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, home dialysis, and renal transplantation, supported by a dedicated multidisciplinary team.

About You

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • Excellent customer service skills, with a people-focused approach to patients, clinicians and colleagues
  • A technically savvy approach, with experience using data systems and confidence picking up new applications quickly
  • Excellent organisational, time management and problem-solving skills
  • A high level of accuracy and strong attention to detail
  • The ability to meet deadlines, manage competing priorities and work unsupervised
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office skills (Word, Outlook, Excel)
  • Excellent keyboard skills (50–70 wpm) and a high level of written and verbal communication
  • A proactive, team-oriented approach and the ability to maintain confidentiality at all times

It would also be great, but not essential, if you had:

  • Broad administrative experience in a health-related field
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Familiarity with the public hospital system, including patient management systems
  • Awareness of, and sensitivity to, people of differing cultural backgrounds
