About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated Clinical Haematologist to join the Stem Cell Transplant team at Christchurch Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a highly specialised multidisciplinary service providing complex and rewarding treatment to patients across the South Island.

As part of this role, you will provide high-level clinical care to patients undergoing autologous and allogeneic stem cell transplantation, including patient assessment, multidisciplinary care planning, transplant coordination, and pre- and post-transplant follow-up. You will contribute to service development, quality improvement initiatives, and teaching opportunities within the department.

While this position has a strong focus on stem cell transplant and cellular therapies, all haematologists participate in inpatient and outpatient haematology services, including the management of acute leukaemias, lymphoma, myeloma, and general haematology conditions.

This role offers the opportunity to work alongside experienced clinicians within a collaborative and supportive environment, while contributing to a service recognised nationally for clinical excellence.

About the Team / Service / Location

The Christchurch Haematology Service is the South Island referral centre for stem cell transplantation and provides specialist haematology services to Nelson Marlborough, as well as comprehensive haematology services across Canterbury, the West Coast, and South Canterbury.

You will join a passionate and experienced team of haematologists, transplant coordinators, specialist nurses, allied health professionals, and support staff who are committed to delivering high-quality patient-centred care.

About You

As a Clinical Haematologist, you will bring a strong commitment to delivering equitable, patient-centred care and thrive in a collaborative multidisciplinary environment. You will demonstrate clinical excellence, compassion, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

You will also have:

  • Vocational registration (or eligibility for vocational registration) with the Medical Council of New Zealand in Internal Medicine – Haematology
  • Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) or equivalent qualification
  • Experience in autologous and/or allogeneic stem cell transplantation
  • Commitment to quality improvement, service development, and multidisciplinary teamwork
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
