We are seeking an exceptional Clinical Nurse Manager (CNM) to provide professional, operational and clinical leadership within our Perioperative & Theatre Suite and Central Sterile Supplies Department (CSSD). This pivotal leadership role ensures a safe, evidence-based practice environment that supports service requirements and delivers high-quality patient care.
About the Role
The Clinical Nurse Manager is responsible for the smooth coordination and operational management of the Perioperative & Theatre Suite and Central Sterile Supplies Department (CSSD), empowering staff to deliver outstanding patient care while working within budget and Ministry of Health requirements.
Working closely with Operational Management, Nurse Managers and multidisciplinary leaders, you will contribute to the Health NZ | Te Whatu Ora vision and ensure our model of care becomes a reality across services.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical & Professional Leadership
- Provide expert leadership and advanced clinical guidance in the delivery of perioperative services.
- Ensure nursing practice is safe, legal, effective and responsive to patient and whānau needs.
- Lead integration of services across the Perioperative & Theatre Suite and CSSD.
- Promote and coordinate multidisciplinary care.
Operational & Service Management
- Oversee day-to-day service delivery and care systems.
- Ensure Theatre rostering aligns with service demands.
- Coordinate staffing, recruitment and leave management in accordance with MECA requirements.
Quality & Safety
Lead quality improvement initiatives and ensure accreditation standards are met.
- Monitor and respond to incidents, complaints and hazards in accordance with Health NZ policies.
- Maintain and audit clinical documentation standards.
Leadership & Team Development
- Conduct annual performance appraisals aligned with Nursing Council competencies.
- Support professional development planning for all nursing staff.
- Facilitate orientation and preceptorship programmes.
- Promote a cohesive, respectful and culturally safe team environment.
- Foster patient advocacy and interdisciplinary collaboration.
About you
Essential Requirements
- Registered Nurse with the Nursing Council of New Zealand and current Annual Practising Certificate.
- Minimum 5 years’ post-registration experience.
- Demonstrated experience within the relevant nursing specialty.
- Postgraduate qualification in nursing or management (or working towards).
- Proven ability to develop and implement nursing care delivery systems.
- Strong knowledge of Nursing Council competencies and performance appraisal processes.
- Demonstrated financial and operational management capability.
- Excellent communication, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
- Strong administrative, organisational and time management skills.
- Computer literate with ability to utilise electronic systems effectively.
- Commitment to culturally safe practice and the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
Desirable
- Previous management experience within a DHB.
- Endorsement at Designated Senior Nurse level on the PDRP (or working towards).
- Experience leading service integration across perioperative environments.
