Clinical Nurse Specialist – Cardiothoracic Surgery

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Registered Nurse with advanced clinical practice and a strong interest in Cardiothoracic nursing to step up into a shared senior role.  As the clinical nursing lead, you will support, mentor and act as a resource person for patients and whanau as they prepare and cover from Cardiothoracic surgery.  This role is responsible the coordination of Cardiac Surgical Patient pathway and takes a lead role in providing education and clinical support for patients / whanau as they recover. The successful candidate will be a strong advocate who has clinical expertise in cardiothoracic or cardiology nursing and the ability to share this knowledge to support patients/families and nursing/multidisciplinary teams. They will be crucial to continuing to support and develop patient education, nursing staff and the embedding of safe practice in the Cardiothoracic Service.

About the Service

The Cardiothoracic service at Christchurch Hospital provides comprehensive diagnostic and surgical treatments for chest, heart, and lung disorders. Supported by a dedicated team of specialist medical officers and registrars, the service provides advanced procedures including coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), valve repair, aortic surgery, and complex thoracic trauma.

We are looking for someone who is committed and passionate to succeed in this role and who as a positive role model will work collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure high standards of care and improved patient outcomes are attained. 

  • A positive role model in clinical leadership you will work collaboratively across the Cardiothoracic Service with the whole team to ensure high standards of care are maintained and quality patient outcomes are achieved.
  • Provide valuable support, education, and clinical expertise to help support Patients and their whanau
  • Promote nursing research, education and evidence-based practice.
  • Your broad knowledge and extensive recent experience will place you perfectly as a specialist resource for the team.
  • Motivated, organised, exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to engage a wide range of people, is paramount in this role.
  • Senior Registered Nurse with a current APC from the Nursing Council of New Zealand
  • You’ll be an expert nurse and either hold, or be working towards, a relevant post graduate qualification and equivalent PDRP.
