Clinical Nurse Specialist – Haematology
- Bone Marrow Transplant Service, Christchurch Hospital
- 0.8FTE - 1.0 FTE (32 - 40 hours per week)
- Shifts: Monday – Friday, 8am - 4:30pm
- Plus the occasional weekend day shift as required, there is flexibility regarding shift start times within reason

About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for experienced Haematology Registered Nurses with an interest and specialist knowledge in bone marrow transplant patient management. These roles can be 0.8 – 1.0 FTE (32 - 40 hours per week). Please indicate in your personalised cover letter which FTE you are seeking.
Based in the Haematology Service, the Bone Marrow Transplant Clinical Nurse Specialist will work across the care continuum, to ensure all patients undergoing bone marrow transplantation and their families receive, coordinated, seamless care at all stages of the transplant process. You will be responsible for:
- Service development and quality improvements for the transplant service from workup through to survivorship processes.
- Liaison with services to support the entire patient journey from admission through to discharge.
- Mentors and role models expert clinical practice and standards to support staff to work to the top of scope.
- Educates staff in relation to daily clinical practice development and new initiatives most specifically stem cell transplant patient care management.
- Undertakes and drives a small component of research to the role to ensure best practice and quality specialty/service improvements.
- There is a degree of Nurse Coordination in this role.
About the Service
The Bone Marrow Transplant Unit located in Ward B6 is where patients receive specialised treatment for malignant and non-malignant haematological disorders treating patients from throughout the South Island.
We are a well-established collaborative team, who work hard. We deliver high standards of nursing care to the patients and families requiring transplant. We offer a supportive and encouraging work environment and strive to be recognised as a centre of excellence.
Whilst the team is not based in the B6 environment you will have strong links and working relationships with B6 Inpatient and the B6 Day Stay Staff. You will be committed to quality improvement, passionate about Haematology services and will work collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure, high quality, patient centred care is delivered to our patients to improve their health outcomes.
About You
- You will be an experienced practitioner with expert at least five years knowledge and skills in Haematology Stem Cell Transplant - essential.
- Relevant bone marrow transplant experience and passionate about working to top of scope.
- Currently hold or be working towards a relevant Post Graduate qualification.
- There is a requirement for you to undertake a nurse prescribing qualification.
- Proven leadership with a solution focused approach, the ability to implement a nursing care model that educates, supports, and encourage others within team in achieve common service goals.
- You will act as a specialist resource for patients, medical practitioners, and other nurses.
- Being enthusiastic, motivated, with excellent interpersonal skills, you will have a proven ability to engage a wide variety of people.
- You will have an ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Registered with the Nursing Council of New Zealand with a current Annual Practising Certificate (APC).
