Clinical Nurse Specialist - Paediatric Diabetes

About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Registered Nurse to step into a senior nursing role within our Paediatric Diabetes Service.

As a Clinical Nurse Specialist, you will provide specialist care and support to tamariki and rangatahi living with diabetes, and their whānau. Working across hospital, community and school settings, you will play an important role in supporting tamariki and their whānau to understand and manage diabetes, helping them build the knowledge and confidence needed for lifelong management.

You will work across the service as an advanced practitioner, educator, consultant, leader and care coordinator, providing expert clinical guidance and helping to ensure coordinated, high-quality care for our complex and vulnerable patient group.

In this role, you will:

• Provide specialist assessment, care planning and ongoing support for tamariki and rangatahi with diabetes
• Support and educate tamariki and whānau to develop confidence in managing diabetes
• Provide clinical leadership, mentoring and education to nursing colleagues and other health professionals
• Work collaboratively with Paediatricians and the wider multidisciplinary team to coordinate care
• Liaise with hospital, community and school-based services to ensure appropriate supports are in place
• Act as a specialist resource and advocate for tamariki, rangatahi and their whānau

About the Team

You will join a supportive and experienced multidisciplinary Paediatric Diabetes team comprising Paediatric Endocrinologists, Clinical Nurse Specialists, a Paediatric Psychologist and a Paediatric Dietitian.

Together, the team provides specialist, high-quality care to tamariki and rangatahi living with diabetes and their whānau, supporting them across their healthcare journey.

About You

You will be an experienced Registered Nurse with expertise in caring for tamariki and rangatahi within a hospital and/or community environment. You will bring a collaborative and solution-focused approach, along with the confidence to provide specialist clinical advice, education and leadership.

You will be an excellent communicator who can build strong relationships with tamariki, whānau, colleagues and community providers. Your ability to assess needs, coordinate care and connect families with appropriate services will be key to succeeding in this role.

You will also have:

• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage effectively with a wide range of people
• Demonstrated clinical leadership and the ability to mentor, educate and support others
• Excellent assessment, care planning and time management skills
• The ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
• An understanding of health, disability and community support services
• A current New Zealand driver's licence, as the role includes travel to community services and whānau
• A relevant postgraduate qualification, or be currently working towards one
• Registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand and a current Annual Practising Certificate (APC)
