Clinical Nurse Specialist - Progressive Care Unit
- Ward A4, Waipapa Hospital, Christchurch
- 1.0FTE (40 hours a week) Fixed term till June 2026 due to Parental Leave
- Monday to Friday 7:30 – 4pm

About the Role
We are looking for an exceptional Clinical Nursing Leader for Ward A4 Progressive Care Unit (PCU).
This is an exciting role for a senior nurse looking to step up as a specialist resource for the team, providing valuable support and education to new and existing staff. As a confident communicator, you will easily establish quality relationships and ensure exceptional ongoing service delivery for our service users.
This role will see you:
- Providing leadership in clinical practice
- Acting as a resource for new and existing staff, and students
- Leading excellent patient centred care
- Promoting nursing research and evidence-based practice
- Role Model and provide clinical leadership in care of the deteriorating patient
- Deliver required nursing models and competencies
- Continue to develop area
specific policy and guidelines
The role will be part of the Surgical Cluster Senior Nursing Team and will report to the Surgical Nursing Director.
About the Service
Ward A4 PCU is an 8 bedded Unit for monitoring and
collaborative management of patients with acute orthopaedic and spinal
presentations.
As a tertiary centre the Orthopaedic / Spinal service
provide acute services to the Canterbury population and several key specialist
services across the South Island and the lower half of the North Island,
providing over 5000 acute surgeries a year.
About you
We are looking for someone who is committed and passionate to succeed in this role and who as a positive role model will work collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure high standards of care and improved patient outcomes are attained.
- Acute surgical clinical expertise
- You will be an advanced nursing practitioner with demonstrated leadership & expert clinical skills
- Motivated and flexible self-starter with the ability to work both in a team and autonomously.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the proven ability to engage people at all levels.
- Innovative in your approach, providing creative solutions and undertaking quality initiatives and research that will continually improve patient outcomes.
- You will either hold or be working towards a relevant post graduate qualification.
- Registered with the Nursing Council of New Zealand with a current Annual Practising Certificate (APC)
