Clinical Nurse Specialist - Wāhi Tautoko (Adult Inpatient Group)

About the role

Wāhi Tautoko is a 10-bedded service located in Building 8. We aim to support consumers that require extended assessment or treatment following an admission to the acute inpatient service prior to discharge. 

This may include:

  • tāngata whaiora who are presenting to services for the first time that may require extended assessment and support around management of their symptoms.
  • tāngata whaiora that have an identified discharge pathway on admission – i.e. home or supported accommodation – but may require some additional assessment and upskilling to safely and successfully transition into the community. 
  • tāngata whaiora who may have limited social supports and require support to increase their engagement in their local communities. 

 The goals of the service include:

  • Provision of a safe and supportive environment to provide extended assessment, treatment and rehabilitation following an admission to the adult acute service
  • Teaching skills to help support illness management and to support consumers to live the life they want to live
  • Support development of structure and meaningful routines
  • Support safe discharge into a community setting

About You 

We will be looking for an experienced Registered Nurse, with mental health scope, who are passionate about providing consumer centred care. 

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Active involvement of ensuring the transition of tangata whaiora , along with the Allied health team into the community  
  • Overseeing the clinical care provided by nursing and multidisciplinary team,
  • Supporting the Clinical Manager as a leader/change agent,
  • Role modelling nursing clinical excellence to improve the mental health and physical health outcomes for our tangata whaiora
  • Providing support and guidance, Performance feedback and completing Performance Appraisals, to nursing staff in the team.
Your skills will include:
  • Be registered with the Nursing Council of New Zealand,
  • Post Graduate Nursing diploma in relevant area required,
  • Hold a current Nursing Council of New Zealand practising certificate,
  • Clinical excellence within an acute inpatient setting,
  • Motivation and confidence to be in a leadership role,
  • Ability to lead and get the best out of your colleagues,
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues of different disciplines in our multidisciplinary team.
