Clinical Psychologist - South Community/Hereford

• Fixed-Term, Part-time 0.5FTE position (Covering Parental Leave from 07/12/2026 - 07/12/2027) Hereford Centre

About the role

The Adult Community Mental Health Service provides treatment for people aged 18-65 years who suffer from a wide range of mental disorders. These fixed-term, part-time positions are for a Clinical Psychologist to provide assessment and individual and group treatment for those under the care of the South Adult Community Mental Health Team and or the Hereford Centre Team and provide psychological consultation to the associated team. In both teams you will work alongside a highly skilled multidisciplinary team including mental health nurses, social workers, occupational therapists, Pūkenga Atawhai, psychiatrists, and registrars. 

South Community Mental Health Team

The South Community Mental Health Team is a large, multidisciplinary service providing assessment, treatment, and recovery-focused support to people experiencing serious mental illness across the southern area of Christchurch. As a busy and diverse team, South offers psychologists the opportunity to work with a broad range of clinical presentations, contributing to assessment, formulation, therapy, risk management, and multidisciplinary treatment planning.

South is recognised for its collaborative, welcoming, and supportive culture. Psychology is highly valued within the team, with experienced psychologists who work closely together and are supported by a wider network of psychologists across community services. This is an excellent opportunity for a psychologist seeking varied and meaningful clinical work, with strong support for professional development and ongoing growth. 

Hereford Centre

The Hereford Centre is a specialist assertive engagement service supporting people with complex, severe, and enduring mental health difficulties who have often found it challenging to engage with traditional community-based services. Working with individuals at greater risk of relapse or hospital admission, the team provides flexible, recovery-focused care that prioritises engagement, wellbeing, and meaningful recovery outcomes.

The work is both challenging and rewarding, requiring creativity, compassion, and persistence. While based within Hereford, you will be professionally connected to the wider South and East outpatient psychology services, benefiting from strong collegial support, professional development opportunities, and an inclusive psychology community. 

About You

• You will be registered with the NZ Psychologists Board in the Clinical scope with a current practicing certificate.
• Previous experience in the Adult Mental Health field is preferred but other skill backgrounds or experience will be given full consideration.
