About the role

Te Whare Mauri Ora (TWMO) is an open forensic rehabilitation ward where our aim is to help prepare our tangata whaiora for living in the community. We are a 13-bed forensic inpatient unit based on the Hillmorton Hospital campus and are part of the Regional Forensic Specialist Mental Health Services within Health New Zealand.

TWMO provides multidisciplinary assessment and treatment for tangata whaiora in a supportive open forensic rehabilitation setting. The service works with individuals whose mental health has contributed to serious offending, or who are assessed as presenting a high risk to themselves or others.  Our focus is on recovery and preparing them for a safe transition back into the community.

TWMO offers a range of individual and group therapeutic activities to support each tangata whaiora in their individual recovery and treatment via a case management model of care. The clinical psychologist role involves working with tangata whaiora who have complex needs and provides psychological assessments and treatments to support multi-disciplinary care.
