About the role
Our Christchurch Hospital campus Occupational Therapy Team is looking for an experienced and skilled Occupational Therapist to join us as a Clinical Team Leader! We’re a team of over 45 OT professionals who also work closely with the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure a clinically evidenced approach to patient care on the acute hospital site. We are continually looking at how we deliver occupational therapy in the most relevant way with best practice always central to any change. We have ongoing service improvement opportunities happening within our service and the team leader roles are crucial to developing this service delivery change.
The Clinical Team Leader is integral to our leadership team, working closely with our other Clinical Team Leaders and the Clinical Manager to lead and improve clinical services in the acute setting. A core component of this position will be contributing to daily operational planning and service improvement initiatives, professionally leadership of staff (12-15), as well as holding a clinical caseload (approximately 60% of role). The clinical area you will be leading is the Orthopaedics and Surgical cluster. This includes in-patient and out-patient hand therapy, and will include the Emergency Department in several months time.
This is a permanent full-time position working Monday – Friday approximately 0800 – 1630. There will also be the need to fulfil a weekend Phone on call requirement (one weekend/month).
In this role, you will be responsible for:
- Ensuring the day-to-day provision of a high-quality clinical service, within both the in-patient and out-patient services at the Christchurch Hospital Campus.
- Working closely with the leadership team and wider multidisciplinary colleagues to identify and implement service improvement initiatives
- Maintaining a designated clinical case load
- Supporting and fostering the development of approximately 10-15 direct report Occupational Therapists

About You
You will be a strong leader with excellent clinical and management skills who is passionate about being involved in service development. As the Clinical Team Leader you will ensure OT's are using the best practice to deliver occupationally focused assessment and intervention. The successful applicant will also demonstrate the following skills and experience:
- A sound clinical background in an acute/rehab hospital setting (a minimum of 5 years’ experience post-qualification is desirable)
- An understanding of core business needs of acute Occupational Therapy service provision
- Proven experience in clinical leadership and service development is required
- Sound working knowledge of local, national and international health systems is strongly desired
- Proven experience in training and supervision of staff with the ability to foster and support the development of a team both collectively and on an individual basis
- A sound understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application to the service
- Registration with the Occupational Therapy Board of NZ and current APC is essential (or eligibility to obtain)
