Community Mental Health Nurse - Totara House

  • Totara House, Christchurch
  • Part-time 0.8 FTE Fixed term 6 month position
  • Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a cohesive multi-disciplinary team

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is committed to building a health system that serves all New Zealanders.

About the role

Totara House is a specialist Early Intervention in Psychosis Service, which works with young adults aged 18-28, who have experienced a first episode of psychosis. We are looking for a Community Mental Health Nurse to join our cohesive, client focused, multi-disciplinary team on a Permanent, 0.8FTE basis.

About You

As a Nurse Case Manager within our team, you will work with individuals, groups and their families/whanau focusing on assessment and care coordination. Your ability to build and maintain therapeutic relationships with clients, the team and with a variety of agencies in the community will find you developing client focused, engaging and inspiring care plans. You’ll work with a high level of autonomy and think creatively/outside the square to support our consumers.

This is a busy role so you’ll need to be a great communicator and well organised, yet flexible enough to work within an ever changing environment. Your ability to problem solve will serve you well.

Ideally you will also have some experience in drug and alcohol work but this is not essential.

Skills and experience:

  • Registered with the Nursing Council of New Zealand, have a current APC that includes scope of practice for Mental Health and a current full driver’s licence is essential.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with family/whanau, colleagues and significant others.
  • A commitment to quality patient care.
  • The ideal candidate would be a Duly Authorised Officer, or at least be prepared to train to be one.
