Director of Lived Experience and Family-Whānau

About the role

We are seeking an exceptional person to join Specialist Mental Health Services, Canterbury, as the Director of Lived Experience and Family/Whānau.

As a key member of the Divisional Leadership Team, this role works in partnership with Mental Health leadership colleagues to support safe, compassionate and effective services that enable people with serious or acute mental disorders in their recovery.

The Director of Lived Experience and Family-Whānau will ensure lived experience and family-whānau voices are heard at every level of Specialist Mental Health Services. The role will lead the development of a framework that informs, inspires and influences service delivery and improves the experience of people accessing services.

This role will specifically see you provide professional leadership to and management of the Lived Experience and Family-Whānau Advisory team; provide expert advice on the effective delivery of lived experience and family-Whānau services within Specialist Mental Health Services support the growth of this key resource in line with contemporary consumer, lived experience and peer support practice.

As the Director of Lived Experience and Family-Whānau you will:

• Bring strong, effective representation of the Lived Experience and Family-Whānau voice to all levels of Specialist Mental Health Services. As Director, you will ensure that the voice of lived experience is privileged in the design, delivery and evaluation of safe quality services.
• Demonstrate a tangible commitment to and role modelling of professional development, standards and principals-based behaviour
• Develop good team processes and constructive communication forums
• Develop an annual workplan including active participation of the team in improvement initiatives
• Manage recruitment, retention, personal development and performance management of the team within an allocated budget

This will be achieved through effective strategic alliances and partnerships with stakeholders and governance groups to strengthen services and improve health outcomes including development of links with local, regional and national lived experience and family-whānau advisory groups

Skills and experience

To be successful in this role, you will bring personal lived experience or family-whānau experience of accessing specialist mental health services. You will be able to apply this experience to the development and delivery of mental health and addiction services, alongside values-based leadership that helps create a positive culture where staff feel valued and compassion, hope and wellbeing are at the centre of practice.You will also bring senior strategic leadership experience, including leading change and managing
