About the role

Acute Assessment Unit (AAU) is part of Ashburton hospitals Acute and Inpatient cluster.

The AAU see a diverse range of presentations, ranging from Triage 1 for immediate resuscitation through to Triage 5 who require less urgent care. Experience in emergency/acute care work, phlebotomy and being cannulation certified is advantageous. 

Ward 1 is a 21-bed acute medical ward based at Ashburton Hospital. In this fast-paced environment, our team care for a wide variety of patients including high dependency, medical and palliative care patients. Ward 2 is Assessment, Treatment and rehab along with Non-weight bearing patients, consisting of 18 beds. 

We are seeking an experienced senior Registered Nurse with a passion to join our Senior Nursing Team as a Duty Nurse Manager. 

In this role you will work autonomously and be responsible for the co-ordination and management of patient flow processes for Ashburton Hospital: weekdays, after hours, weekends and Public Holidays.  You will demonstrate a wide-ranging career expertise and a pragmatic, organised approach with an obvious passion to multitask and make sound decisions on the go. Post graduate experience in leadership and management and/or experience in nursing leadership is a definite advantage but all applicants will be considered based on the applicants’ career experience, and desire for a senior leadership position.

About You

This role is at times is both challenging and demanding, plus at the same time is rewarding and never dull! Therefore, we are looking for someone who is collaborative by working alongside and in partnership with the senior nursing team, wider nursing colleagues and external DHB’s/providers to provide an optimum service delivery for all users.

It is the expectation that you will be working at the top of your scope both clinically and professionally, along with showing strong leadership skills and a possess a positive outlook. 

Additionally, you will have:

  • Broad “acute” clinical experience and excellent collaborative skills that will enable you to communicate effectively across all disciplines and occupational groups.
  • Extensive nursing experience either clinically or in a relevant senior nursing role.
  • Expert clinical nursing knowledge with demonstrated leadership ability and sound people management skills.
  • A solution focused approach to your work with the ability to problem solve and think on your feet.

Skills and experience

  • Acute medical or surgical experience is essential.
  • A NZ Registered Nurse with current Annual Practising Certificate.
