Emergency Medicine Fellow

Our Purpose

The Canterbury District Health Board systematically plan, fund and deliver care to almost 600,000 people that live in the Canterbury region. The Canterbury Health System is a world leader in the delivery of integrated health care.  Our main focus is placing people (staff and patients alike) at the centre of everything we do.

The Team

Change is happening at the Canterbury District Health Board with our new Acute Services Building opening in early 2020. This will be the new home of our Emergency Department which is one of the busiest in Australasia and sees approximately 100,000 patients per annum. The department is accredited for advanced training in Emergency Medicine by the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine.

The Role

We are currently recruiting Fellows (senior trainees peri Emergency Medicine Fellowship) to join our team on fixed term, full time contracts from June 2020 to December 2021.

There are no night shifts, reduced weekends, 17% rostered non-clinical time and an especially prepared Fellow Teaching Programme. You will have the opportunity to pursue a special interest or project that has an Emergency Medicine focus. You will also partake in SMO meetings and have the opportunity to run the floor in a supported environment.

Your duties include the management of patients who present to the department, as well as the education and supervision of medical and other staff. You will get experience working with senior nursing colleagues to coordinate patient flow in a busy Emergency Department. You will be directly accountable to the Clinical Director of the Emergency Department.

You will be advancing your training toward becoming a Fellow of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine, or international equivalent and be eligible for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
