Enrolled Nurse – Te Whare Mauri Ora (TWMO)

Te Whare Mauri Ora (TWMO) is a 13-bed open forensic rehabilitation ward based at Hillmorton Hospital. As part of Health New Zealand’s Regional Forensic Specialist Mental Health Services, we provide multidisciplinary assessment and treatment in a supportive environment for tangata whaiora.

Our focus is on recovery—supporting individuals whose mental illness has contributed to serious offending, or who present a high risk to themselves or others, to safely transition back into the community.

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Enrolled Nurse to join our team. 

About the Role

This is a varied and rewarding role where you will work alongside a multidisciplinary team to provide safe, respectful, and recovery-focused care. You will support tangata whaiora in their day-to-day wellbeing while contributing to treatment plans and maintaining a safe therapeutic environment. 

Key Responsibilities

Whaiora Care and Support

  • Provide safe, respectful, and person-centred care
  • Support daily living needs and build strong therapeutic relationships
  • Observe and report changes in health, wellbeing, or behaviour

Monitoring and Safety

  • Monitor tangata whaiora regularly to ensure safety
  • Follow care plans and respond appropriately to risks or emergencies

Support Treatment Plans

  • Assist in implementing care plans, including administering medication as directed
  • Monitor for side effects and escalate concerns

Communication and Documentation

  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical records
  • Communicate effectively with the multidisciplinary team
  • Ensure privacy and confidentiality is upheld

Professional Practice

  • Adhere to nursing standards, policies, and procedures
  • Contribute positively to team culture and ongoing professional development

Te Tiriti o Waitangi

  • Support equitable health outcomes for Māori
  • Uphold the values and aspirations of tangata whenua and mana whenua
  • Contribute to culturally safe care and support Māori workforce development 

About You

Essential:

  • Registered with the Nursing Council of New Zealand with a current APC and mental health scope
  • Previous mental health experience preferred
  • Nurses with the right skills and attitude, and mental health scope, may be considered
  • Excellent communication and time management skills
  • Confident, resilient, and able to work in a challenging environment
  • Strong relationship-building skills
  • Knowledge of and commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi

Desirable:

  • Experience applying Te Tiriti o Waitangi in practice
  • Experience working within a mental health setting
