About the Role
We are seeking two motivated Gastroenterology Fellows to join our Gastroenterology Service at Christchurch Hospital for a 12-month fixed-term fellowship starting from February 2027.
This fellowship provides an excellent opportunity for advanced trainees and recently qualified Gastroenterologists to further develop their clinical and procedural expertise within a high-volume tertiary referral centre. Working alongside a team of experienced Gastroenterologists, Fellows will gain exposure to a broad range of acute and chronic gastroenterological conditions while participating in both diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy services.
You will be actively involved in inpatient and outpatient care, multidisciplinary team meetings, and endoscopy lists, while contributing to teaching, quality improvement initiatives, and research activities where available. The role also includes participation in the after-hours roster.
This fellowship offers an exceptional platform for physicians seeking additional subspecialty experience and advanced training in Gastroenterology within a supportive academic environment.
About the Team / Service / Location
The Gastroenterology Service at Christchurch Hospital provides comprehensive secondary and tertiary gastroenterology care to patients across Canterbury and the South Island. The service includes inpatient care, outpatient clinics, endoscopy services, and multidisciplinary collaboration across a wide range of medical and surgical specialties.

About You
As a Gastroenterology Fellow, you will have:
- A primary medical qualification recognised by the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ)
- Eligibility for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand
- Completion of, or near completion of, advanced physician training in Gastroenterology or an equivalent recognised training programme
- Demonstrated competence in general gastroenterology and endoscopy
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills
- A commitment to delivering equitable, patient-centred care
- A passion for ongoing professional development, teaching, and clinical excellence
