Healthcare Assistant - Neurosurgery and Neurology


  • Ward B8, Waipapa Hospital, Christchurch
  • 0.8FTE (32 hours a week), permanent position
  • Rostered and Rotating shifts - Monday to Sunday. Morning, Afternoon and Nights.

About the Role

A Healthcare Assistant is an integral part of our team and we are looking for a candidate who has excellent communication skills, a positive attitude and the ability to use their initiative.
You will enjoy being busy and don't mind that the role can be at times be physically demanding. You will work with a diverse multi-disciplinary team and follow a rotating roster including weekend shifts.

You will be responsible for:

  • Patient care including personal care
  • Cleaning and tidying the ward/house keeping
  • Stocking the ward with supplies
  • Assisting the nursing team with a variety of tasks on the ward
  • Ensuring that patients have the best experience possible
  • Prioritising patient safety at all times.

About the Service

Ward B8 is a busy, acute ward caring for patients with neurological conditions including; brain tumours, head injuries, spinal tumours, movement disorders and seizures. As the largest inpatient neuroscience facility in the South Island it is a busy medical and surgical environment caring for a complex patient group with a diverse range of neurological and neurosurgical conditions.

About you

You will be well accustomed to working within a fast-paced environment and prioritising your tasks continuously as your day evolves.

  • Ideally experience as a Healthcare Assistant or similar
  • Ability to work all shifts – Morning, Afternoon and Nights
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Punctual and reliable with excellent time management
  • A high attention to detail and the ability to relate to patients and their families
  • A good use of initiative, problem-solving skills and willingness to learn
