About the Role

Healthcare Assistants are instrumental in providing care to patients and supporting the clinical team. As a Healthcare Assistant you will assist nursing staff with patient cares whilst maintaining a safe and clean work environment on the ward. This is a very hands-on ward and you will be responsible for personal care – assisting patients with showering, feeding etc and making beds.

About the Team

The Parkside Ground Medical Ward based at Christchurch Hospital consists of 33 beds, spread across two wings, East and West. In February 2026 the service will be relocating to Ward 15, a medical ward of 30 beds. We are a supportive and passionate team who like to have fun and celebrate success and where coming to work feels like a family. About You

As a Healthcare Assistant you will have the following:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to engage well
  • A desire to learn and an understanding of the social needs and backgrounds of patients and their families/Whanau
  • A good sense of humour
  • The ability to develop rapport with patients and colleagues
  • Passion to assist our patients to achieve the best health outcomes
  • Strong and broad Hospital Aide background, preferably in ward settings
