Come and join the established People Analytics Team at Te Whatu Ora Waitaha. We’re currently looking for an intermediate to senior level Data Analyst to specialise in HR Data Analytics within our team.

About the role

Aotearoa’s health system is undergoing transformation under the Pae Ora/Healthy Futures vision building a system where people live longer in good health, enjoy improved quality of life, and experience equity across all groups.

Our People Analytics Team plays a key role in delivering accurate, timely, and consistent workforce insights to support informed decision-making across Te Whatu Ora Waitaha (Canterbury) and Te Tai o Poutini (West Coast).

The HR Data Analyst will be working with the team to support the delivery and development of robust regular people reporting and analytics solutions to assist sound decision-making and accurately inform the wider organisation with relevant people data. The role would carry-out regular reporting activity and perform qualitative and quantitative data analysis.

As a Data Analyst, you’ll work closely with other team members and stakeholders to:

  • Uphold data governance and confidentiality standards
  • Monitor and report on progress toward strategic workforce goals
  • Develop and track people performance and outcome measures
  • Analyse staff-related metrics to inform operational performance
  • Build relationships with key users of workforce data
  • Create insightful reports using both qualitative and quantitative data
  • Support stakeholders with people data and insights
  • Collaborate with Māori and disability partners to ensure culturally responsive and accessible data representation

Skills and experience

Essential:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification (e.g., Commerce, Information Systems, Statistics, HR, Social Sciences)
  • Experience and demonstratable competence in using data analytics tools specifically SQL Server, SSRS, Power BI (or similar)
  • High numeracy and analytical ability
  • Ability to write clear reports and interpret data

Desired:

  • Understanding of HR functions and processes
  • Strong Excel skills for data aggregation and presentation
  • Experience with HR metrics and people data
  • Familiarity with the New Zealand health sector
  • Ability to analyse diverse data sources and make informed recommendations
