Intern Pharmacist

About the Role
Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora, Waitaha prides itself on supporting, developing and training Clinical Pharmacists. Our internship programme ensures our interns are trained in all aspects of hospital pharmacy and are well qualified at the end to work competently as a pharmacist.
This position has plenty of challenging opportunities and innovation is encouraged by peers, senior staff and management. As part of your internship programme you will complete a research project, with guidance, which will be presented either in-house or at the NZHPA conference. The department provides regular continuing education and numerous other training opportunities which we expect our interns to take part in.
Each intern has one preceptor for the year, but many pharmacy staff are involved with the training both in-house and on the wards, so a wide variety of experience is gained. We also organise a rotation to a community pharmacy for OTC experience.
The days and hours associated with the position are Monday – Friday, 8.00am – 4.30pm. These positions will be based at Christchurch Hospital and include rotations across our Health New Zealand, Canterbury’s hospital sites (Hillmorton, Burwood and Ashburton).
Our wide range of pharmacy services is provided by a positive, friendly and inclusive team of Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, Pharmacy Assistants and administrative staff. We pride ourselves on delivering an outstanding service in collaboration with the wider multi-disciplinary team.
Christchurch and surrounding Canterbury is great for individuals
and families alike. It encourages an active lifestyle with opportunities for

and award-winning restaurants are also on our doorstep.
In this role, you will be responsible for:
- Clinical interventions
- Medicines reconciliation
- Patient counselling
- Dispensing, non-sterile and aseptic production
- Completing the PSNZ EVOLVE programme
About You
We are seeking two Pharmacy new graduates to join us for your internship year, we would like to hear from you if you can demonstrate these skills:
- Well-developed communication and time-management skills
- Excellent computer skills
- The ability to work well in a multi-disciplinary team
- A flexible and motivated approach to your work
- You must be eligible for the PSNZ EVOLVE Intern Pharmacist programme
- Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori OR a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth
