Interventional Cardiologist – Christchurch Hospital
Employment Type: Permanent, Part-time (0.6 FTE, job-split)
A unique opportunity has arisen for a qualified Interventional and Structural Cardiologist to join Christchurch Hospital in a job-split arrangement with a current Cardiologist reducing their FTE. About the Role
As an Interventional Cardiologist, you will play a key role in delivering comprehensive cardiology services across both elective and acute settings. You will be actively involved in coronary intervention and structural heart procedures, including participation in our established TAVI programme.
This role includes contributing to the acute cardiology service, managing complex cardiovascular presentations, and participating in a shared on-call roster providing 24/7 interventional and general cardiology care. You will also contribute to outpatient clinics, inpatient care, and outreach services across the region.
In addition to clinical responsibilities, you will provide leadership, support, and teaching to junior medical staff and allied health professionals, while also engaging in research and quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes.

About you
As an Interventional Cardiologist, you will bring:
- Vocational registration (or eligibility for registration) with the Medical Council of New Zealand in Cardiology
- Experience in coronary intervention and structural heart procedures, including TAVI
- A commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care
- Experience in acute cardiology and participation in on-call services
- A collaborative approach with strong communication and teamwork skills
- Interest in teaching, service development, and quality improvement
