About the role

Canterbury Health Laboratories Ashburton is looking for a Laboratory Assistant to join their team in Ashburton on a casual basis. We are a small but busy laboratory where we are looking for someone who may be looking for a change in career or looking to pick up some extra hours. Full training in Phlebotomy will be provided.

You will be someone who likes to be around people, isn’t afraid of blood and wants to contribute to the wider health system. You will also know your way around a computer at a junior level. In joining us you will be part of a supportive and friendly team that has a strong focus on providing a quality laboratory service to the Ashburton community.

The laboratory operates between the hours of 07:00 and 18:00 Monday to Friday. For this casual position, we are looking for someone who is flexible and available to cover planned and unplanned leave.

You will:

  • Enjoy being around people and building relationships
  • Know your way around a computer at a junior level
  • Be comfortable with taking blood (full training will be provided)
  • Want to contribute to the wider health system
  • As some travel is required within the community, a full or restricted NZ driver’s license is essential

About you

  • Have a NCEA level 2 or equivalent
  • Current driver’s licence
  • Have experience in and be able to demonstrate competence in the collection of blood samples from patients
  • Possess effective interpersonal and organisational skills
  • Can initiate and facilitate open communication with staff
  • Be client focused and committed to quality outcomes
