About the Role

Are you an experienced Maintenance Fitter looking for a challenging and rewarding opportunity?

Join our team at Ashburton Hospital and contribute to the maintenance and repair of vital building services, plant, and equipment across our healthcare facilities.

Starting salary is $75k to $86k, depending on experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the repair and maintenance of buildings, building services, plant, equipment, and building management systems.
  • Perform maintenance and repairs of mechanical systems, including heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, water, steam, steam condensate, compressed air, and medical gas systems.
  • Ensure minimal disruption to services and staff while carrying out duties.
  • Complete and return all necessary documentation promptly.
  • Conduct Planned Maintenance, Condition, and Defect work as per instructions.
  • Requisition necessary parts and materials.
  • Maintain vehicles, work areas, storage spaces, and tools in good condition.
  • Be available for urgent work requests, carrying a Health NZ mobile phone or pager as required.

Specific Engineering Projects:

  • Carry out maintenance and repairs as required.
  • Recommend changes or improvements to maintain high standards.
  • Complete projects within agreed timelines.
  • Maintain and repair ground source heating plants, auxiliary boilers, and associated equipment, including preparation for annual IQP inspections.
  • Assist with the upgrading and installation of mechanical building services.
  • Conduct pipe welding, general welding, and metal machining.
  • Collaborate with other trade staff on maintenance and engineering tasks.
  • Follow all Maintenance & Engineering Standards and Operations & Procedures Manuals.
  • Report any faulty or malfunctioning equipment to the Manager.

About you

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Advanced Trade Certificate (desirable but not required).
  • Experience in a 24-hour operating environment (preferable).
  • Familiarity with building statutory requirements.
  • Ability to work in a healthcare environment and liaise with professionals across disciplines.
  • Strong communication and time management skills.
  • Understanding of trades' roles and their impact on patient services.
  • Ability to assess maintenance requirements through casual observation.
  • Knowledge of administrative procedures and flexibility in task management.
  • Ability to interpret Building Management System (BMS) data and respond to operational issues effectively.
  • Willingness to undergo site-specific training as required.
