Manager Integrated Health Services Northern Region
About the role
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to join our team as the Manager Integrated Health Services for the Northern Region on the West Coast of the South Island. This pivotal role involves leading the operational transformation of the Te Whatu Ora Buller and Reefton Health Teams towards an integrated family health service with a focus on a new model of care. This is putting primary care is at the centre of our service, supported by an acute stabilisation unit, community mental health and allied health services. In one of the most rural of areas in New Zealand, our Northern team is looking to lead the way in rural health services.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide leadership for the Integrated Family Health Service (IFHS) in the Northern Region.
- Drive operational change to ensure the delivery of a sustainable healthcare service.
- Implement and manage the Rural Generalist model across all facility services.
- Facilitate change, conduct planning, manage personnel, oversee recruitment, and handle day-to-day IFHS operations.
- Ensure the continuation of patient services associated with the facility.
- Ensure we have a robust and effective primary care service, supported by a strong acute, mental health and allied health service.

- Leadership:
- Provide visionary and strategic leadership to the health teams.
- Motivate and inspire teams towards common goals.
- Works with other teams across the West Coast to ensure there is a consistent approach, learning and supporting each other to provide the best care for our population.
- Quality, Person-Centered, Sustainable Healthcare:
- Drive the delivery of high-quality, person-centered healthcare services.
- Foster sustainability through efficient operational practices.
- Meeting all quality and service standards.
- Developing a rural generalist model:
- Lead the transition of services that puts community needs at its core, focusing on a robust primary care and supported by extended services such as mental health, allied health and an acute stabilisation service.
- Continuation of Patient Services:
- Ensure uninterrupted patient services associated with the facility.
Skills and Experience:
- Essential:
- Tertiary qualification in a relevant field.
- Minimum of 15 years of senior management experience, including project management expertise.
- Experience in establishing health service delivery initiatives, particularly in a primary and or community health space.
- Sound business and financial acumen.
- Desirable:
- Postgraduate management qualification.
- Knowledge or understanding of New Zealand healthcare systems, including accreditation and quality standards frameworks.
- Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Experience managing teams through significant change.
- Strategic and operational planning experience.
Other Requirements:
- Cultural sensitivity with an understanding of the Principles and Articles of the Treaty of Waitangi.
- Ability to produce high-quality written correspondence.
- Work well under pressure and prioritize competing demands.
- High level of computer proficiency.
