About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Consultant Maxillofacial Surgeon to join our Maxillofacial Surgery service at Christchurch Hospital.

This role offers the opportunity to contribute to a broad range of Maxillofacial services while working within a highly collaborative multidisciplinary environment. You will provide high-quality clinical care across outpatient clinics, operating theatre sessions, acute and on-call responsibilities, and inpatient services.

Alongside clinical responsibilities, this role offers opportunities to contribute to education, research and service improvement initiatives. You will play an important role in teaching and supporting Registrars, House Officers, Medical Students, Nursing staff and Allied Health professionals, while helping maintain a culture of continuous learning and excellence.

The successful candidate will participate in a 1:3 on-call roster and contribute to providing equitable, patient-focused care aligned with best-practice principles.

The Maxillofacial Surgery service at Christchurch Hospital provides specialist care across a diverse range of conditions and procedures for patients throughout Canterbury and surrounding regions.

You will be joining a supportive and experienced team committed to delivering excellent patient outcomes while fostering innovation, education and service development. The team works closely alongside medical, nursing and allied health colleagues across a wide range of specialties.

About You

As a Consultant Maxillofacial Surgeon, you will bring both clinical expertise and a collaborative approach to patient care.

You will have:

  • Registration with both the Dental Council of New Zealand and the Medical Council of New Zealand (or eligibility for registration)
  • Expertise across general Maxillofacial Surgery
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams
  • A commitment to education, quality improvement, research and ongoing professional development
  • The ability to work effectively in a complex environment and prioritise clinical workload
  • A patient-centred approach and commitment to achieving equitable healthcare outcomes
