Medical Laboratory Scientist | Bacteriology
- Christchurch – Canterbury Health Laboratories
 - Casual position to predominantly cover evening shift (4.30pm to12.30pm) although other shifts maybe available.

About the Role
Canterbury Health Laboratories is the largest medical laboratory in the South Island which is also a major secondary/tertiary referral centre. We have a modern and well-equipped lab including a good range of specialist equipment. Our laboratory is open 24 hours a day, providing timely results to our clinicians to ensure our patients are getting the right treatment, at the right time.
We’re seeking applications from NZ Registered Medical Laboratory Scientists to join our Microbiology Department within our Bacteriology Lab. You will work within a team of experienced laboratory professionals, managing a varied and challenging case load.
In this role, you will be responsible for:
- Processing a wide range of specimens
 - Microscopy (gram stains, cell counts, fungal)
 - Identifying pathogens and perform antimicrobial susceptibility testing
 - Reporting and authorising results
 - Maintain you own professional development
 - Providing a high-quality service to clients
 - Problem solving within the team
 - Adhering to Health and Safety protocols and procedures
 
About you
Skills and experience
Your skills will include:
- Registered as a Medical Laboratory Scientist with the New Zealand Medical Sciences Council, with a current Annual Practising Certificate
 - Experience in Bacteriology a must
 - Ability to work as part of a team and independently
 - Prioritisation skills
