Are you a registered Medical Laboratory Scientist with an interest in Toxicology and specialist analytical testing?

We are looking for a motivated Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our Toxicology team and provide a high-quality laboratory service supporting patient diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing health and wellbeing.

This is an excellent opportunity to work within a specialist diagnostic environment, using both manual and automated techniques and developing your expertise across a range of toxicology testing.

About the Role

As a Medical Laboratory Scientist, you will:

  • Perform the collection, receipt, preparation, investigation, and analysis of human biological samples. Notably HPLC and LCMS
  • Perform and supervise manual and automated assays across a range of specimens.
  • Undertake laboratory testing within your registered scope of practice.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting of laboratory tests, analysers, and equipment.
  • Operate the Laboratory Information System accurately for patient registration, data entry, and accessing results.
  • Ensure testing is performed in accordance with laboratory procedures, protocols, and quality requirements.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of ISO 15189 accreditation and quality standards.
  • Work collaboratively with the Quality Lead and Quality Group to support ongoing quality improvement.
  • Participate in training, competency development, and professional development activities.
  • Work closely with colleagues and the Section Head to maintain a high-performing and supportive laboratory environment.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of your professional development and training plan.

About You

You will be a qualified and registered Medical Laboratory Scientist who is committed to delivering accurate, high-quality results and working collaboratively within a specialist laboratory environment.

Essential

  • Registration with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand as a Medical Laboratory Scientist.
  • Current Annual Practising Certificate (APC).
  • Ability to maintain a high professional standard in line with the competence standards for Medical Laboratory Scientists.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Good communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with Mass Spec and HPLC technologies

Desirable

  • Experience working within a diagnostic Toxicology service.
  • Experience with MSMS and/or GCMS.
  • Experience working within an IANZ-accredited laboratory.
  • Experience with Sysmex Delphic Laboratory Information System.

Experience with Sysmex Delphic is helpful but not essential, as full training will be provided.
