As we head into the winter months the demand for health care services in Canterbury increases. To help meet the seasonally demands we are seeking dedicated and experienced individuals to join our team on fixed term contracts.

About the Role
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Medical Laboratory Pre-Analytical Technician to join our Specimen Services team. This role is essential in ensuring the accurate and efficient handling of laboratory samples, supporting high-quality diagnostic services and patient care.

Key Responsibilities

Key Result Areas & Performance Indicators:

  • Registering samples in the Delphic LIS system accurately and efficiently
  • Performing specimen sorting duties
  • Prioritising urgent samples to meet critical turnaround times
  • Operating the Lamson system
  • Answering phone enquiries professionally and promptly
  • Managing front desk duties, including patient and client interactions
  • Troubleshooting specimen and system-related issues
  • Liaising effectively with internal departments, referral laboratories, clinicians, and nursing staff

About you

Essential Requirements

  • Relevant graduate qualification or QMLT certificate
  • Registration with the Medical Laboratory Sciences Council (MLS) and a current Annual Practising Certificate
  • 1–5 years’ experience in Specimen Services or a similar laboratory environment
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing Te Tiriti o Waitangi in practice
  • Strong teamwork skills; proactive, adaptable, and able to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Above-average typing and data entry skills
