About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Medical Specialist or Medical Officer to join the Gynaecology Procedure Unit (GPU) at Christchurch Women’s Hospital on a 0.25 FTE (10 hours per week) basis.

In this role, you will provide a range of abortion services and minor gynaecological procedures within a supportive multidisciplinary team environment. You will deliver elective first trimester and early second trimester abortion services, and provide consultation and referrals to Obstetrics and Gynaecology SMOs for late second trimester abortions when required.

You will also undertake manual vacuum aspiration procedures for first trimester miscarriage management, along with minor gynaecological procedures including pipelle biopsy and IUD insertion and removal. Teaching opportunities are available, and you will contribute to the education of medical students and junior medical staff.

The GPU operates four days per week (Monday–Thursday) from 8:00am to 2:00pm. The successful applicant will work two regular sessions per week (one six-hour and one four-hour session). Flexibility to assist with leave cover would be advantageous.

About the Team / Service / Location

Christchurch Women’s Hospital is a busy tertiary referral centre with approximately 6,000 deliveries per year and includes a dedicated maternal medicine department. We are a recognised training centre for the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG) and host both training and non-training registrars within the service.

The Gynaecology Procedure Unit provides specialised reproductive health and minor gynaecology services in a supportive and collaborative clinical environment.

Christchurch offers an exceptional quality of life, with easy access to beaches, mountains, and outdoor activities while still enjoying the benefits of a vibrant and growing city.
