About the Role

Te Whare Manaaki is a Medium Secure Forensic Unit, which provides specialist care for people who, as a result of a mental illness, have seriously offended or are assessed as high risk for serious offending. Priding itself on a sustained commitment to quality improvement, the Forensic Mental Health Service is a fulfilling and dynamic environment to work in. 

Mental Health Assistants are instrumental in providing care to patients and supporting the clinical team. As a Mental Health Assistant, you will assist nursing staff with patient cares whilst maintaining a safe and clean work environment on the ward.

This role involves utilising a number of electronic systems to ensure the ongoing safety and security of our Forensic Mental Health Medium Secure units. In this role you will work closely with all members of the team to ensure a safe environment

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills along with a caring and compassionate nature will see you excel in this area.  We pride ourselves on working as a team in collaboration and partnership with consumers and family/whanau.

Skills and Experience

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to engage well
  • Effective problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively in a multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Initiative and a proactive approach to work
  • Ideally experience as a Hospital Aide or similar
  • Mental Health experience is highly desirable
