About the Role

We are seeking a non-training Surgical Registrar to join us in 2026. First half of the year will be in either General Surgery or Plastics.

Canterbury District offers non-SET Surgical Registrar positions in a variety of surgical specialities. Runs are 6 months long with the majority of runs providing points for surgical training applications.

About you

  • Completed PGY2 year or equivalent.
  • A keen passion for surgery.
  • You will have experience in a number of Surgical Services.
  • Completion of your General Surgical Science Examination (GSSE) would be advantageous.
  • Knowledge and commitment of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and how the principles can be applied to health.
  • A willingness to grow and further develop an equity lens and skillset, both to assist Māori and minority groups.
  • You must be eligible for general or provisional general registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand. You can check your eligibility by visiting the Council’s website at www.mcnz.org.nz
