Nurse Coordinator – After Hours


  • 0.5FTE (20 hours per week) permanent position
  • Based at Christchurch Hospital Campus
  • Shifts are Monday to Friday; afternoon and night and Weekends; morning, afternoon and night.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced senior nurse to join our dedicated After Hours Nursing Team and expand their skills.

The After Hours Nurse Coordinator is responsible for assessing and ensuring optimum patient care, through supporting the Duty Nurse Manager (DNM) with clinical resource, problem solvingmortuary, emergency drug cupboard, utilising CCM to assist with staffing, VRM response, and supporting the DNM in emergent events in the EOC such as fire, earthquakes etc. in the after hours, weekends and public holidays. This is a busy and at times challenging role.

About the Service

The Nurse Coordinator role at Christchurch Hospital carries out a key role in our senior nursing team in the Department of Nursing.

About You

In this busy and challenging role, you will be an expert in the acute setting with excellent patient assessment skills and highly organised with great time management skills. You will have excellent communication skills, problem solving skills and enjoy liaising with a variety of health professionals and the public.

Skills and experience:

  • A vision for nursing and accountability for performance.
  • A broad knowledge of the health and disability sector
  • The ability to lead innovation and organisational change.
  • Postgraduate qualification in nursing and or health leadership and management or currently working towards this
  • Evidence of contribution to project teams
  • Evidence of involvement in improvement initiatives
  • Evidence of excellent interpersonal skills and leadership qualities.
  • Demonstrated cultural competencies in the practice setting.
  • Registered with the Nursing Council of New Zealand with a current Annual Practicing Certificate (APC)
