About the role
One of only four level three rural hospitals in the South Island, and the largest rural health facility in Canterbury, Ashburton and Rural Health Services provide a range of Inpatient, Day patient, Outpatient and Community based services to the community. Best responding to the unique needs of the surrounding rural communities, Ashburton and Rural Health Services’ rural generalist model of care emphasises integrated care across all of their settings.
About You
As the Nurse Educator for Ashburton & Rural Health Services, you’ll promote excellence in nursing practice, provide nursing leadership, clinical expertise and educational opportunities for their nurses.
Working with the Director of Nursing, Nurse Managers & Nursing staff, you’ll achieve optimal health outcomes by providing leadership in clinical practice and education to develop knowledge, skills & competence in nursing. The role will utilise research to advance nursing best practice across all sites, and contribute to evidence based policy & evaluation through the quality process.
You will be an effective communicator and your approachable manner will find you acting as a clinical resource and support person for both new and experienced staff.
As the Nurse Educator, you will be part of the Ashburton & Rural Health Services’ Senior Nursing Team. You will develop a strong education frame work that will incorporate Rural Health generalist, evidence based, and best practice principles related to patient care in a large rural community. You will be expected to utilise your teaching skills to support changes in clinical practice and patient care
This is a part time role covering a large area and supporting a wide range of staff, therefore exceptional organisational and communication skills as well as adaptability and the ability to travel are imperative. This is a role suited for a Registered Nurse with a broad range of nursing experience, along with a passion for and background in adult education, training, and professional development within the profession.
The successful applicant will ideally either have, or will be working towards a certificate in adult teaching and/ or a relevant post graduate qualification.

Skills and experience
- Acute medical or surgical experience is essential
- A NZ Registered Nurse with current Annual Practising Certificate
